I was building a fence yesterday and one of my 4x4s was 10 feet long so that meant a 4 foot hole. I dug down a little over two feet with a shovel and was in real hard pack clay before I remembered I had this in the truck. I had my drill set on Hammer Drill and it immediately came out of my hand, so I turned it down a few speeds and it worked great. The clay would stick to it so I could easily pull it out while it was attached to the auger. It probably saved me a good 20 minutes of working in hot humid weather so it was worth it. I will say I do have a very good drill and I do not think it will be as good with a weak drill.Drills great with proper drill and best if ground is moist, saves lots of time and energy, works best if you have a strong wrist.Works only in loose soil. In harder soils, the tool does not drill well and ricochets occasionally. If the soil is not consistent/has stones, the tool does not work well. The hex end can also get damaged depending on the drill chuck used. A hex sleeve will really help protect the driving end, but I could not locate a long sleeve that would be necessary.Works great !!! Should have gotten longer one, so I use a drill bit extension. No probs.Had to dig just a few fence post holes. Needed something cheap to help with the hard gray clay I have. The fist two feet were relatively easy, that last foot was a killer though. If it wasn’t for this little digger I would be in traction. Can’t beat it for the price! Not perfect but it did the trick. My husband and I are both in our 70s and enjoy vegetable and flower gardening. This auger is right up there with disposable diapers and the food processor. Yesterday we planted 25 sweet potatoe plants in about 30 minutes. I have no problem using this auger even with my arthritis and spinal issues. I would recommend this product to every gardener. It is worth every penny. The quality is excellent and extremely well made.I have clay soil so its heavy and solid and its tough to drill. It was moist so not as hard as it would have been dry. It was tough on wrists and fingers when it catches and jerks drill in wrists, I would use a smaller auger due to injury from that to my hand. I did about 20 holes and the auger snapped off. It broke off jus past the drill chuck. I am not sure if auger could have lasted longer now that I have witnessed how these work.It would be way better with a square or triangular shaft round shaft just spins too easily
